WHAT ARE HIMALAYAN KITTENS?

The first attempts to combine the genes of Siamese and Persian may be placed in Sweden and the United Stated for the period from 1920 to 1945, but the various breeders involved in it failed to obtain a new race.

BRIAN STIRLING WEBB

An English breeder took on the challenge. He and his wife acquired some cats that had the required genetic base from other experimental breeders. This time the attempt succeeded and in 1955 Britain’s Governing Count of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) accepted the new breed and gave it the name Colourpoint Longhair, i.e peeling with points, more tonally dark.

AMERICAN CAT FANCIERS ASSOCIATION

Both in the US and Canada, breeders also strive to get the same breed. For this purpose examples imported from Britain as well as others achieved in the North American region achieved successful Kittens.

The official recognition began with the American Cat Fanciers Association in 1958. Over the following years all other existing associations in the United States adopted qualifying rules a standard for the new race named Himalayan Cat.

TODAY

The status of Himalayan Persian Cats today depends on which association they are born into. In Britain, the term Persian was abandoned for several years and all the Persian-type furry cars were grouped simply under the common denomination of Pelargos with the exception that each color of the fur was attributed to the category of the breed.
